What’s the first thing we need to think about when it comes to our closets?  Answer:  We wear 20% of our clothing 80% of the time.  So, what’s hanging up (or heaped on the floor) in there?  Most likely, a lot of clothing that hasn’t seen the light of day in a long time.  A lot of clothing that is just taking up space.  A lot of clothing to push past so we can grab the same 20% that we do wear over and over again. 

So what should we keep in our closets?  My advice is to only keep clothing that:

•     Looks good on you
•     Feels good when you wear it
•     Fits you well

I believe that when you get dressed each day, you should look and feel your best!  Why wear something that doesn’t fit those criteria?

This leads me to the clothing you need to part with in your closet organizing efforts:

•     Clothing with rips, tears or stains-really, even if it is comfy!
•     Clothing in the wrong size-store future sizes someplace else
•     Clothing that turned out to be a mistake-call it good and donate it
•     Clothing that is out of style-please don’t save it until it comes back around
•     Clothing that just doesn’t make you feel your best
•     Clothing that you haven’t worn in at least one year
•     Pass on clothing that is in good condition to someone you know or to a charity, someone will find it and be thrilled with a good deal.  When you part with it you won’t miss it because you weren’t wearing it anyway!

Closet organizing is easy when you have a clear idea about what to part with and what to keep to make you feel great when you get dressed each day!

You teach your children to have good manners, right? So why not expect your dog to have good manners?

It amazes me when I see parents who let their kids run around a store, take stuff from the candy counter, the parent yells at them, then pays for the candy.

Same thing with dogs. Dogs don’t speak English, but doggie guardians keep yelling at their dogs like they’re supposed to understand every word.

Anyway, one needs to spend some quality time and effort into teaching their dogs to be good, pleasant creatures to be around, just like you do for your kids — “please” and “thank you” and all that.

One of my dogs came from a rescue shelter. He had been neglected and possibly abused in his first home.

I found him on the internet when I was looking for some kind of poodle mix (so I could have a dog that didn’t shed!).

When he got to my house, he was a mess! So ill-mannered! And he stunk! He didn’t listen at all, didn’t know any commands and he kept biting me!

But he was mine, and I figured I’d do my best to clean him up, and maybe he would settle down. But the biting I wasn’t about to tolerate. And I wasn’t sure how I was going to deal with that.

My vet said that because he was half Lhasa Apso, he was predisposed to aggression, but that it was based in fear. That was his way of coping when he was afraid.
Once I understood that, it was much easier to work with him on the biting.

One of the things that really helped was getting good “psychological” instruction in how to deal with the biting. I needed to realize he was frightened when he got mouthy. So I would talk softly and be extra sweet and gentle, and soon my new doggie began to understand that I was “safe.” He became such a sweetie over the next few months, I just absolutely fell in love with him.

This wasn’t an overnight fix, but rather a long-term understanding.

It is an art to match the tie correctly with the rest of the clothes and the occasion. So how do you perfect the tricks of it? Simply remember these few guidelines.

Always buy the tie of correct length. Standard tie lengths are 130-150cm. Tall men should request for longer ties. An appropriate tie length is when the triangle tip of the tie touches your belt buckle.

Unless you can afford to buy tie widths in fashion, buy a width of 8-9cm which is a general width and will never get out of fashion.

While purchasing mens silk ties to go with a suit, ensure that you carry the suit with you. You will then have a perfect idea of how the tie will look when worn. If the jacket is a sports coat then the color of the trousers must also be taken into consideration while selecting the tie.

Before buying, carefully check the tie for any manufacturing defect like loose threads, uneven weaving, stain, discoloration, smudge, etc.

Casual, regular office ties can be polyester blends, but business meetings and other occasions require italian silk ties or silk blend ties.

For all occasions, avoid ties with pictures and cartoons. These patterns are very informal and should be worn only to similarly informal occasions, like a birthday party or a family gathering.

A safe bet are solid colored, striped or dotted ties. Match them with the shirt or the suit and wear.

A dark shirt is relieved by lighter colored tie and a bright shirt can be sobered by pairing it with a dark tie. Dark blue and dark red colors seldom go wrong in ties. You can also select a tie of the same color as your shirt or suit, but in a lighter or darker shade.

Are you aware that your face and skin also should affect your tie selection?

If you have a strong, angular face you should wear striped ties. Dotted and paisley printed ties go well with a round or baby face. Solid colors can be worn by everyone.

As you would match the shirt and suit to your skin before buying, so should you follow the same principles while selecting a tie.

All work and no vacation is not good, even in a recession. I have wondered if you can stay on a tight budget and still get away on a short trip. Based on my time spent on several travel sites, it seems that the major online websites all can find good travel deals if I can be a little flexible.

When you select from among the various online travel companies, you are looking for the best price for car rental, hotel rooms and airline tickets, and also a trip without logistical problems.  I can look for the best prices on airfare and hotel rooms, but if I find a travel destination where I can drive my own car, it might save me even more. The current generation for the Legacy debuted for 2005. Until the 2008 model year, it was also sold in a wagon body style with the same trim levels available on the sedan. The budget-priced 2.5 GT trim level was discontinued for 2006, while the GT spec.B was added. That year also saw the addition of a DVD-based navigation system.

The previous, third-generation Subaru Legacy was more of a rugged all-weather performer than the current model. Sold from 2000-’04, it launched with three primary trim levels: base L, sporty GT and premium GT Limited. A Brighton value trim was also included in the 2000 lineup for the wagon, but was removed the following year. Although it was a bit lacking in refinement, the previous Legacy suspension part is well stocked with standard features, including AWD. All trims came with a smooth and responsive 165-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission was standard and a four-speed automatic was optional. In 2003, Subaru moved the L trim upscale and added the L Special Edition trim, which was renamed the 35th Anniversary Edition a year later.

Value-minded buyers looking for an all-weather vehicle might take a look at the second-generation Legacy. Sold from 1995-’99, it was best known for spawning the Outback wagon, a rugged SUV alternative that came with standard AWD. The model’s one weak link was its anemic 135-hp 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, which many people felt was a downgrade from the 160-hp turbocharged 2.2-liter four-cylinder that was available in the first generation’s Sport Turbo trim (sold from 1991-’94). The sportier GT Limited trim gets an exciting turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder good for 243 hp. These models come with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The 2.5 GT spec.B adds a firmer suspension parts, 18-inch wheels and a six-speed manual transmission. The 3.0 R has a 245-hp 3.0-liter flat-6 that comes with a five-speed automatic transmission. As with all Subaru vehicles, AWD is standard across all models.
